Condolences for Qatar's Father Emir

Qatar's Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has been receiving numerous condolences from both regional and international leaders following the passing of his father, Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The late Father Emir passed away at the age of 74, and tributes have been pouring in at Lusail Palace in Doha.

International Mourners Gather in Doha

The grief-stricken emir has been welcoming a steady stream of mourners, including members of the ruling family, ministers, ambassadors, and ordinary citizens. Distinguished visitors have traveled to the Qatari capital from around the world to offer their condolences. These include notable figures such as Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and many others.

Regional Leaders Offer Sympathies

Among the regional leaders paying their respects were Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, Iraqi President Nizar Amidi, Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, and President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq Nechirvan Barzani. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, accompanied by a delegation, also extended his condolences, alongside Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, Oman's deputy prime minister for defense affairs.

Gulf Cooperation Council Representation

Members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) were present to express their condolences. This included King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain and his Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, as well as Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah, who was joined by several Kuwaiti officials.

Saudi Delegation Pays Tribute

A Saudi delegation, comprising Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud Al Saud, Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Deputy Governor of Riyadh Prince Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, and cabinet member Prince Turki bin Mohammed Al Saud, also attended the proceedings.

Broader International Responses

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa visited Doha to extend his condolences. Additionally, FIFA President Gianni Infantino was among those who paid tribute to the late Father Emir.

Official Mourning Period Declared

The Amiri Diwan announced a three-day period for the emir to receive condolences from various dignitaries, beginning July 13 and concluding on July 15, 2026. Mourners were scheduled to be received both in the morning and evening, following the Asr and Isha prayers.

Following the funeral prayers at Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque, the late Father Emir was laid to rest at Lusail Cemetery. The Amiri Diwan also declared a national mourning period of four days, starting on July 12, 2026, with flags at half-mast and work suspended in public offices until July 19, 2026.

Sympathy messages continued to arrive via phone calls and social media platforms, reflecting the widespread respect and admiration for Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani's contributions to Qatar during his leadership.
